Popular Restaurant To Open New Suffolk County Location

The owners of a popular restaurant that specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine are preparing to launch a new location on Long Island.

Ruta Oaxaca is set to open in Suffolk County around the second week in December, according to owner Jose Castillo.

Castillo owns the eatery with Chef Felipe Arellano and Chef Carlos Arellano, two brothers who were born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The owners have operated their business in Astoria for nearly a year now and were ready to branch out with the new space, which will be located at 30 East Main St. in Patchogue, Castillo said. 

“We’re a family-owned and operated restaurant," Castillo said. "We love what we do. Our passion is to make our customer experience above and beyond.”

The menu of the new restaurant will be the same as the Astoria location's menu.

Castillo said one of the most popular items on the menu is the appetizer "Chicken buñuelos," which are fritters made in the traditional Oaxacan style with Mole Oaxaca sauce.

The restaurant is also known for its "Enchilada Mole" entree dish and its housemade fresh corn tortillas.

The Astoria location offers more than 40 different kinds of tequila and 30 mezcals, Castillo said. 

Castillo said the restaurant focuses on offering fresh, traditional cuisine from the south of Mexico with flavors that stand out.

“People really love our cuisine because we’re different than a lot of other restaurants with our own flair," Castillo added.
